LEJ commits to construction of new plant

LEJLithium Energy Japan (LEJ) has decided to build a new Plant in Ritto City, Shiga Pref., Japan. The new Ritto plant will start production in early 2012. The new plant will produce 4.4 million cells a year, enough to power 50,000 of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation’s new-generation i-MiEV electric vehicles (EV). The total investment in plant and equipment will amount to 37.5 billion yen.

Japan auto, power giants target electric car standard

Four Japanese auto giants and the country’s largest power company joined forces Monday to set up a common system to recharge electric cars, with the aim of creating a global standard.

Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi Motors and Fuji Heavy Industries have linked up with Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) as the organising members of the new grouping called “CHAdeMO”.

Japan EV makers, utility plan battery-charge stations

TEPCO, Asia's largest utility companyThree Japanese EV makers teamed up with the country’s largest power company Wednesday to study ways to build a grid of battery charging stations for zero-emission EVs. The four companies hope “to popularise fast-speed charge stations, which are absolutely essential in promoting EVs in Japan.”
