For Hybrid Electric Vehicles (vehicles that combine electrical power with a standard internal combustion engine) lithium-ion rechargeable batteries are often touted as the up and coming power source, mainly due to their ability to provide high power and energy from a relatively small battery. But there are some problems to be overcome before these batteries can be fully exploited in hybrid cars.
